Genius Hour 1.7

I’ve made the decision to put off my cat project temporarily. I want to find a design that is quicker to complete and will have better payoff. Im thinking of choosing something is has the same basic shape as my wood blocks in order to not have to work around cutting the block down before even beginning. I have many designs saved and will hopefully be able to find one tonight to start on. With Genius Hour ending soon, I am proud of my progress, but hope to be able to complete as least one or two more projects.

    Carving a cat sounds really hard. Sounds like you've made a lot of progress though. I'm excited to see what your next project will be! Do you think you'll continue to use this new skill even when genius hour ends?

    I love this genius hour so much, it is such a unique skill that you can continue to get better at as long as you want to! I think that a hand carved cat would make an awesome Christmas gift and just an overall cool thing to have done. I hope all goes well finding a new design and good luck with the rest of your project!

    I don't think that I could ever be coordinated enough to whittle without cutting a finger off. Sometimes smaller projects are necessary and modifications need to be made to your plans. Good job on figuring out alternate options!

Genius Hour 1.2

Week 2 of whittling has proved to be quite challenging. As I finished up on the details of my gnome, I made the decision to sidetrack for a bit and start a new project. I chose a small baseball bat as my next whittling creation. As simple as the design may be, I knew I would face difficulty with having correct proportions, smooth texture, and even knife strokes on such a small and delicate piece of wood. Beginning the bat was simple enough. I could take large pieces off with the knife and within no time at all, the basic bat shape was starting to form. However, I was soon to run into some issues. Genius Hour 1.5

This week for whittling I have continued on with my little wooden cat. Its proving to be quite difficult, because of its size and angles, but I'm excited to see the outcome. I still haven't figured out my wood block dilemma, but I'm hoping Mr. Kelly can help me out with cutting some of the blocks down to the correct sizes. I have issues asking for help, but in order to keep progressing with my whittling at the pace I want to, I'll need to suck up my pride and utilize other people.
