Genius Hour 2.6

Hello Bloggers. This week I have not accomplished much progress wise. I was out of town for 5 days, and obviously didn’t bring my nunchucks with me because that is a public safety threat. I can definitely notice when I haven’t practiced for awhile, because my forearms become sore when practicing again. My goal in starting up again was to keep my motions fluid, and I feel as if I accomplished that because I got back into the swing of things pretty fast. No pun intended. With Genius Hour ending soon, I am more than happy with my overall progress, and am on track with my original plan even at this point.

Genius Hour 2.5

Hello Bloggers, this past week I have not had much time to devote to nunchucks, sadly. They are a bit time consuming, because it definitely takes quite a bit of practice to see any improvement. I still haven’t gotten past the point of accidentally hitting myself with them yet, but hopefully I’ll reach that point soon. At the very least, I haven’t broken anything with them on accident yet. My goal this week was to learn a move from a video, and it’s proving to be quite challenging. I have the move down enough, but it could definitely be cleaned up technique wise. Despite not devoting as much time as I wish I would’ve this week, I am still on track towards my end goal.

Hello, Bloggers. Progress this week for learning nunchucks has been successful. I can now do most of the moves with ease and fluidity, so now it comes to the point of continuing to speed them up and combining them. With this speed comes the ability to make more mistakes, and thats been apparent in the many times Ive smacked myself in the back of the head with the nunchucks. They are very dense, so it is quite painful, but that’s just more incentive to get it down. My goal this week was to improve a certain move that had been difficult for me, and I feel as if I’ve accomplished that. I can now do it with few mistakes and its a building move, so I can add it to others to perform more complex moves. All of my little accomplishments combined are definitely helping me progress towards my bigger goals of creating a “routine.” I am on track with my Genius Hour planner, and don’t see that changing any time soon. These are the two sets of nunchucks I have been working with. Both are made with...

Genius Hour 2.3

Hello bloggers. Week 3 of nunchucks has had its ups and downs. Im beginning to become more fluid with my motions and have picked up speed with each move. Im happy with the progression and even have started to do more advanced skills. But, with the new skills, I have also encountered some obstacles. You need a large open space to practice certain nunchuck skills, and that can be difficult sometimes. Ideally, I would go outside in order to avoid breaking my tv or hitting my dogs on accident, but because it is so cold, its not exactly doable. So, Ive been practicing in my bedroom. I have smacked my ceiling fan, dresser, and almost killed my cat in cold blood swinging the nunchucks around. These are issues indeed, but the grind never stops so Im still going. I hope by next week I can  start using youtube videos to learn combo moves and impressive skills.

Genius Hour 2.2

This week I had a nunchuck lesson with Mr. Hollowell. He taught me basic warmups, techniques, and starter skills. The moves I learned can be combined in many ways to form nunchuck combos. I learned about 6 moves in total, and have begun to practice them about every other day. Nunchucks actually require a lot of forearm strength, so practicing every day isn’t easy because of how sore my arms become. My goal this week is to make the moves more fluid and eventually speed up. By the end of genius hour, I want to combine all these skills to make a “routine.” Ive learned a lot so far, and am excited to progress further.

Genius Hour 2.1

Welcome back everyone. For Genius Hour number two, as most of you might know, I am pursuing the art of nunchaku, or more commonly known as nunchucks. This first week, I have been doing a substantial amount of research on techniques, tips or beginners, and skills to start with. Since Mr. Hollowell is going to be my primary resource for learning, I will meet with him today to get the basics down and begin my journey. I am concerned that I will injure myself, destory something, or insult my perfectionist personality by not being immediately good, but I am excited to pursue this.

Genius Hour 1.8

As Genius Hour comes to an end, I am happy with the whittling skills I have acquired. There were some bumps in the road, but I overcame them and whittled on. I completed about 3 full projects, and while that may not seem like such a great feat, they each took time and effort, especially since I have never done this before. With each little project, I improved on my techniques and grew a little better at what I was doing. I plan to keep whittling after Genius hour ends because it is a calming and rewarding hobby.
